Shadow Dungeon Greater Rifts Guide — Unlocks, Tiers & Loot
Shadow Dungeon Greater Rifts guide: when they unlock, Normal-to-Inferno difficulty order, better affix rolls, exclusive runes and climb rules.
Unlock and first entry
Greater Rifts are Shadow Dungeon's post-story endgame. The official 1.0 announcement places the unlock after the main story, which spans 160 stages and is tuned to leave your character around level 99–100. Enter Normal first unless your story build already clears post-campaign enemies without strain.
Do not invent a hidden floor requirement or power score: OO Cat's published material confirms the unlock, the four tiers and the reward scaling, but not a universal numeric readiness check.
- Finish the story.
- Check the build's weakest layer.
- Enter Normal and establish a repeatable clear.
The four difficulty tiers
The official order is Normal, Master, Nightmare and Inferno. Higher settings increase the chance of rare items and let weapons appear with more affixes. That makes difficulty progression a gear-quality decision, not merely a badge.
A practical editorial rule is to remain on the current tier until you can complete it consistently without spending every recovery resource. Then move up once and compare. If the next tier destroys the loop, return, fix one named weakness and retest.
- Normal: learn the endgame loop.
- Master: test whether story gear is coherent.
- Nightmare: demand both damage and survival.
- Inferno: chase the best published rarity and affix opportunity.
What the rift-exclusive loot is for
The 1.0 announcement lists 370 Talent Skill Runes, 6,800 Equipment Skill Runes and 60 Attribute Runes among the rift-exclusive rewards, alongside socketing and enhancement materials, Essence Stones, Permanent Magic Stones, Golden Hammer and Divine Mirror. The announcement does not publish exact drop rates or recipes, so this guide does not add them.
Ordinary rare gear also improves in value because higher difficulties can produce more affixes. Judge each drop by whether it strengthens the build's activation chain, defense or set direction rather than by rarity color alone.
A repeatable climb loop
Clear the same tier, name the bottleneck, change one thing, and clear it again. Packs killing you calls for defense or control; bosses surviving the rotation calls for single-target synergy; a broken rotation calls for matching talent and gear triggers. Only advance after the fix produces a repeatable result.
- Clear → identify one bottleneck.
- Change one gear, talent or utility layer.
- Repeat the same tier.
- Advance only when the result is stable.
